Capo - Learn Music by Ear App Reviews

Needs work.

The app works fine, however it would be nice to have lyrics with the chords, and it really REALLY needs to be integrated with Apple Music.

UI mars an otherwise good product

For what it is, this app is great, but the UI really makes it hard to use. 1) the region loop/play controls are horrible. Even after reading the guide I have no clue when Im going to pause/play the whole song or a loop after changing regions. I just use the play button on headphones or a Bluetooth speaker now cuz thats actually consistent. 2) This needs either over lapping regions or multiple projects for the same song so I can break down a solo into parts to learn and then loop the whole solo without having to kill the mini regions I worked so hard to create in this UI. 3) The tempo control barely works. If you drag if far left, it will never drag back because the ui keeps thinking youre trying to swipe the whole control. Only way I can fix it is by mashing the thick bar for 100% tempo and even that takes about 20 presses before it registers. When the UI isnt getting in the way, this app great, but unfortunately the UI is in the way about 80% of the time.

Dont waste your time and money

Total disappointment! Wrong chord detections all along! If I could I would ask for my money back! Expensive app for nothing!

Chord detection is poor...

Tried on several songs but it didnt worked out. Even not with easy songs...

Crashes

App crashes after the tutorial on iphone 4 (7.0.4). Please fix

Almost perfect

This is an amazing app the first time I used it I was amazed. It made me very happy. It has its limitations which will make you appreciate it more if you dont expect any of these things to happen. It is a great tool for figuring out beatles songs or other music that is similar in complexity rhythmically and tonally. Dont expect to figure out jazz chord melodies with this, or steely dan songs, or meshuggah. This is a limited app all it does is figure out chords in songs. Not notes or anything like that. It also doesnt figure out the voicing of the chord. Anything with a changing time signature will not work. Besides these limitations which are totally understandable the app is great. It is a little breakthrough but the limitations i listed are where the real breakthroughs need to happen all across the board.

Good value

Ive found this app to be the best of its kind so far. The variety of options it offers to learn a song are well thought out. The sound remains clean when the recording is slowed down, which is essential. The chord recognition feature often supplies too many chords, but you can figure out which ones are most important. Pretty easy to use, fairly intuitive. One thing I havent found is a button to return to the start of the song. Seems pretty basic - hopefully it will be included later.

One request

The app is excellent! The audio quality is very good when slowed down, and the app is easy to use. I have one request though - could you make it possible to import voice memos/ make a record function for playback? Id love to record my practicing and slow it down with this app - please make it happen!

Doesnt support instrument pass thru

You cannot play sound with an instrument hooked up to irig for example. Unlike some other apps

Aweful

Terrible app, the chords did not match the song even the chord changes were off, i want my money back

Crashes on loading

On my iPhone (with a large iTunes library) the app crashes immediately. It runs fine on my iPad (with a smaller iTunes library), but it does a poor job of sorting out all but the most basic of songs. Great idea poorly executed at this point.

Pretty, pretty, cool app.

I bought this on a whim a week ago. Just opened it today and within a minute I was playing a 60 yr old Woody Guthrie tune on my guitar. Great app, cant wait to check out all its features. Bravo.

Glitches

Sometimes changing specific chords in a song will cause part of the song be cut off after the new chord. There should also be an option when changing a chord or chord shape to allow changes to apply to all of the same chord. 3/5 for now

Amazing!!!!!!!!

All musicians will understand. Thank you guys for your work. Saves so much time. Totally worth a praise. Keep working, maybe one day we can have all instruments separately figured and converted in midi

Like magic.

This app is pretty darn cool. If you know a bit about music, you can feed it a song and be playing it moments later. That’s cool. It can be a little difficult sometimes to understand the timing it is showing you, like when the chord changes fall, but if you know the song you can nail it pretty quickly. Very cool. One of those types of apps you use to show people how cool your iPad is and the cool kind of stuff it can do. Very happy with the purchase.

Great so far....

Spent a few minutes messing around with a few tracks, and this is really excellent so far. My only complaint would be the app seems to lean towards bar chords over open chords, and I find it a little difficult to read which fret the chords are on for the bar (was testing things out on an iPod touch at first). Would like to see an option to select alternate fingerlings, or to focus more on open chords when available, or it makes sense for the progression.

Worst app ever

Cannot process many songs that were downloaded directly from iTunes. The pitch detection is a joke. Puts seventh notes most of the time, even if the same chord was correctly detected a few bars before.

OpenCRASH!!!!!!!!openCRASH!!!!

Enough said. you owe me

Great app!!

This is an excellent app, I love that there is options for lots of different tunings:) I had a few problems at the start but got constant feedback and help from Chris. Its very refreshing to have a great app with real backup.

Best app for musicians ever!

Okay. Where do I begin? This app is incredibly amazing! I mainly bought it to find the actual chords to many of my songs. But I got features like beat detection, transposing, speeding up and slowing down, and it all works perfectly! Totally worth $12.
